Ram Key Technology Explained
Ram trucks built before the mid-2010s use the Mopar Sentry Key Remote Entry Module, called SKREEM, shared with Dodge and Chrysler vehicles. SKREEM manages the transponder key immobilizer and the remote entry functions through a single control unit. Each enrolled key carries a chip that must answer a challenge from the SKREEM before the engine starts. Key programming on these models follows the same OBDII procedure used for Dodge and Chrysler vehicles on the Stellantis platform.
Current Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 models use a Uconnect-integrated smart key platform with proximity entry and push-button start on equipped trims. The proximity fob uses rolling-code RF signals for entry and a separate encrypted transponder chip for start authorization. Heavy-duty 2500 and 3500 diesel models share the same key architecture as the 1500 but may have additional powertrain options tied to the key profile through the Uconnect system.
The Ram ProMaster cargo van uses a different platform from the Ram truck lineup. ProMaster is based on the Fiat Ducato architecture rather than the standard Stellantis truck platform. ProMaster key service requires Fiat Group OBDII software rather than the Mopar tools used on Ram trucks. We carry both software sets and confirm the correct procedure before we arrive at your location.

Ram Key Services We Offer
Ram Sentry Key Programming
We program Sentry Key transponder fobs for all SKREEM-based Ram trucks via OBDII. The new key works for entry and ignition start from the first use.
Ram Uconnect Smart Key
We program proximity smart keys for current Ram 1500, 2500, and 3500 models using Stellantis OBDII software. We verify push-button start, passive entry, and remote start functions at your location.
Ram ProMaster Key Service
We program ProMaster keys using Fiat Group OBDII software. ProMaster uses a different platform from Ram trucks. We confirm the correct procedure before dispatching.
All Keys Lost — Ram
We access the SKREEM or BCM via OBDII to create a new key set when no working Ram key exists. Ownership documentation is required. Process takes 30 to 60 minutes at your location.
Ram Spare Key Duplication
Ram truck drivers who use their vehicle for work especially benefit from a spare key. We program the spare in the same visit at a reduced cost.
Common Ram Key Problems
Ram 1500 ignition cylinder wear from heavy keychain
Ram 1500 work trucks frequently carry multiple tool fobs and access cards on the same keychain. The added weight accelerates ignition cylinder wear. We repair or replace the cylinder on-site.
2500 and 3500 diesel SKREEM communication lag
Heavy-duty diesel Ram trucks can show a delayed SKREEM authentication response at startup in cold weather. Extended crank time before the SKREEM authorizes the engine is normal on cold diesel starts but should not cause a no-start.
ProMaster key confused with Ram truck procedure
Many locksmiths treat ProMaster as a standard Ram truck and attempt Mopar SKREEM procedures. ProMaster requires Fiat Group software. Using the wrong procedure wastes time and can trigger lockout states.
Uconnect fob shows paired in app but car will not start
Uconnect account pairing and BCM key enrollment are separate. A fob can appear linked in the app but not be enrolled in the BCM. We re-enroll the fob directly via OBDII.
Remote start activates but engine dies at two seconds
A remote start that fires and dies immediately on a Ram truck usually indicates a transponder authentication failure. The fob triggered the start but the immobilizer did not authorize the engine.
Why Staten Island Drivers Choose Us for Ram Keys
Ram trucks are among the most common work vehicles on Staten Island, and we carry Stellantis SKREEM software, current Uconnect smart key tools, and separate Fiat Group software for the ProMaster. We know the difference between Ram truck and ProMaster platforms before we arrive. We reach you in about 30 minutes and complete the job at your location.
