Mitsubishi Advanced Keyless Entry detects an enrolled fob near the door handles and unlocks automatically when you grip the handle. Push-button start activates when the fob is inside the cabin and the brake is pressed. The system uses low-frequency antenna modules at each door handle and under the center console. Programming requires Mitsubishi-specific OBDII software to enroll the new key in the Body Control Module.

The Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle, called PHEV, uses the same key architecture as the standard Outlander but adds a charge port interlock tied to the key state.
