Jaguar and Land Rover share a common InControl connected services architecture that integrates the smart key system with the vehicle's infotainment, remote services, and telematics. The smart key fob uses rolling-code RF signals for proximity entry and a separate transponder chip for push-button start authorization. Programming requires JLR-specific OBDII software that communicates with Jaguar's Body Control Module using a proprietary diagnostic protocol.

The Jaguar F-Pace, E-Pace, and XE use a proximity key similar in function to other European luxury brands but with JLR-specific chip types and enrollment procedures. The key must pass a multi-step authentication sequence before the engine will start. A new key that skips any step in the enrollment sequence will open the doors but fail the start authorization. The Jaguar I-Pace electric vehicle uses the same JLR smart key platform as the combustion models but adds a remote charge management layer through the InControl Remote app. Physical key replacement on the I-Pace follows the same OBDII enrollment process. The charge scheduling and remote precondition features are managed separately through the InControl app account and are not affected by physical key replacement.
