Infiniti uses a premium variant of the Nissan Intelligent Key system. The Intelligent Key detects an enrolled fob within range of the door handles and unlocks automatically when you grip the handle. Push-button start requires the fob inside the cabin where a transponder ring reads the chip before the engine runs. The system is built on Nissan Anti-Theft System architecture but tuned for Infiniti's luxury trim and extended proximity range requirements.
Infiniti models use advanced transponder chip types that have evolved through several generations of Nissan Anti-Theft System. The QX80 and Q70 from the early 2010s use HITAG2 chips with rolling-code encryption. Newer models including the Q50 and QX50 use the Nissan-proprietary NATS Generation 6 protocol, which requires live OBDII communication with the BCM to generate a valid enrollment token. Generic transponder cloners cannot copy these chips.
All-keys-lost service on current Infiniti models requires OBDII access to both the BCM and the immobilizer control unit. The technician must generate a pin code from the VIN through an Infiniti-authorized database before the BCM will accept a new key enrollment.
