Chrysler Key Technology Explained
Chrysler vehicles built from 1998 through the mid-2010s use the Sentry Key Remote Entry Module, commonly called SKREEM. This module manages both the transponder key immobilizer and the remote entry functions through a single control unit. SKREEM stores a list of enrolled key IDs. When an enrolled key is inserted, the module sends a challenge and the key's transponder chip returns the correct response before the engine starts.
Current Chrysler models including the Pacifica use a Stellantis smart key platform with a proximity entry fob and push-button start. These fobs use rolling-code RF signals for entry and a separate encrypted transponder chip for start authorization. Programming requires a Stellantis-compatible OBDII connection to enroll the new key in the Body Control Module.
The Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid adds a layer of complexity to key service because the vehicle manages two separate power systems. The key system itself is not fundamentally different from the standard Pacifica, but the Hybrid's charge door interlock can confuse diagnostic tools that were not written with plug-in hybrid architecture in mind. We use Stellantis-specific software that handles the Pacifica Hybrid correctly.

Chrysler Key Services We Offer
Chrysler Sentry Key Programming
We program Sentry Key transponder fobs for all SKREEM-based Chrysler models via OBDII. The new key handles entry and ignition authentication from the first use.
Chrysler Pacifica Smart Key
We program proximity smart keys for the current Pacifica and Pacifica Hybrid using Stellantis OBDII software. We test push-button start, passive entry, and sliding door functions before we leave.
Chrysler Transponder Blade Key
Older Town & Country and PT Cruiser models use a blade key with a transponder chip. We cut the blade to factory spec and program the Sentry Key chip at your location.
All Keys Lost — Chrysler
We access the SKREEM or BCM via OBDII to enroll a new key set when no working Chrysler key exists. Ownership verification is required before we begin.
Chrysler Spare Key Duplication
A spare Chrysler key programmed today protects you from an all-keys-lost emergency later. We add the second key in the same visit while our tools are already connected.
Common Chrysler Key Problems
SKREEM module failure requiring module replacement
The SKREEM module itself can fail electrically, not just lose key enrollment. When the module fails, reprogramming the key does not help. We diagnose whether the module or the key is the cause before recommending a replacement.
Pacifica Hybrid key desync after charge port use
The Pacifica Hybrid's charge interlock system can interfere with proximity key detection in certain states. We use Stellantis Hybrid-aware diagnostic procedures to resolve enrollment conflicts.
Town & Country flip-key shell cracking
The flip-key design on older Town & Country models uses a plastic shell that cracks after years of use. We replace the shell and transfer the circuit board and chip to a new housing.
Chrysler 300 ignition cylinder wear
The Chrysler 300 uses a heavy key fob that adds stress to the ignition cylinder over time. We diagnose cylinder wear and repair it on-site for 300 and other Chrysler sedan models.
Remote entry works but engine will not start
The SKREEM manages entry and start separately. A fob that unlocks but cannot start usually has a Sentry Key transponder enrollment fault that we can fix without replacing the physical fob.
